Feeling A Bit Sh*t #055
Perhaps something in this newsletter will help?
Sunday, Sunday … how quickly you roll around. It’s been a slightly cooler week in Melbourne, for the most part and a little bit of sharp crispness in the air has been a relief. It’s a long weekend here and there’s all sorts of Moomba, Grand Prix, Labour Day chatter about. Of course I am just in my house, having a quiet time, eating raisin toast and attending none of those things. I can’t say I’m unhappy about it, dear reader … I’m going to weed the garden a bit, make a pot of tea and do some reading. Those are my Grand Prix, really …
The Good Things …
one/ Here comes the new adaptation of Little House On the Prairie. (Photos from the first table reads are here.)
two/ ‘Do not panic.’
three/ Crazy Plant Ladies through the ages. (Top image by CPL Beatrix Potter.)
four/ And a bunch more downloadable/printable vintage wildflower illustrations.
five/ Celia Martin and Baz Luhrmann designed a luxury train carriage, friends!
six/ Have you spotted Heidi Moon’s doggy day care bus in action?! (Below)
seven/ A (legendary) Gippsland wildlife rescuer is using dental techniques and 3D printing to help rehabilitate injured turtles.
eight/ These sea-themed pulpits are kind of bonkers, right?
nine/ Creativity is a super-power, helping our brains make meaning after disruption.
ten/ A bunch of different ways to make Irish Soda Bread. One Pan Chicken Parm Pasta. Yum! Vegan Gyoza with Tempeh also sounds delicious. (Below.) Homemade Fougasse looks so good. A One Bowl Lemon Cake to whip up. Or this Friday 4pm Chocolate Cake? How ‘bout a little Chilli Crisp Carbonara? This Apple, Honey and Poppyseed Cake looks special too.
eleven/ Turns out there’s a veggie garden in Antarctica …
twelve/ Why everyone should take a leaf out of Miss Piggy’s book. #hiYAH!
thirteen/ “How writing a book about diaries changed how I wrote my own diary entries.”
fourteen/ Of course I want to make an alligator or two ASAP!
fifteen/ On choosing to be curious in the garden. (Full of helpful reminders!)
sixteen/ I loved this reflection by Diane Schiffer about how life doesn’t always go according to plan.
seventeen/ A peek at some of the world’s tiniest books.
eighteen/ The French animator who scored her first Oscar nomination at 70.
nineteen/ Behold the Apple Peeling Champion of Stanthorpe!
twenty/ We definitely need to revisit Harry Styles’ Brit performance, don’t we? And the new video for American Girls? (Below)
Around the grounds
It was my eldest’s birthday yesterday, so we hit the local pub for a little celebration on a very autumnal Melbourne evening. Little June lasted two whole hours in the company of her uncles and cousin and parents (and me!) which I thought was a very good innings for a little girl. Earlier in the week I popped over to mind her for a couple of hours while Rin did some worky stuff. We read Magic Beach three times, played with the cats (Nancy and Tony) and looked at nearly every toy in the household. She’s particularly interested in this Playmobil Ark I found at the op shop, mostly liking Noah’s wife if I’m honest.
What are you reading?
I started The Unbelieved by Vikki Petraitis earlier this week, in readiness for the upcoming new Anna Torv/Emma Freeman series Dustfall. I’m also a bit of the way through Three Little Truths by Eithne Shortall. Enjoying so far.
Silly joke of the week
What happened to the cat who swallowed a ball of wool?
She had mittens, of course!
Wishing you the best week possible, dear reader. Thinking of you!
