It’s Sunday night and the kids are alright. Or maybe they’re not and they need a dose of Feeling A Bit Sh*t to bolster them for the week ahead? Let’s begin!
1/ Can you even believe that the Australian Mint has just released a series of coins to commemorate The Australian Women’s Weekly Birthday Cake Book?!
2/ Carrie Fisher and some stormtroopers, anyone? (I once met her at Channel Ten and she was polite and nice.)
3/ The Talented Ms Highsmith - “I worked for the novelist in her final months. I thought she wanted to kill me.”
4/ Do you fancy staying at this gorgeous Tassie ‘shack’? Or maybe you want to stay at our old family shack? It’s a beaut! That’s our beach in the top image.
5/ Have you seen the gorgeous work of Alejandra Oviedo? (Below) I think you will like it (because I do and we are a bit alike, right?!)
6/ The National Library’s Overton Collection contains over 4000 Penguin books, thanks to donor John Overton who was a design and production manager at Penguin in the 40s and 50s.
7/ How can creative writing help the healing process for those of us who are living with trauma and/or chronic pain?
"It's about using the craft of writing to create something beautiful from the pain, trauma or loss someone has suffered …”
8/ This episode of Stanley Tucci’s show (Tucci In Italy) featuring Italian-style confetti caught my eye. What a beautiful tradition.
9/ Have you seen the Big Red Ball that’s been popping up in an English city in recent weeks? Apparently it’s been to lots of different cities (including Sydney), sharing it’s boisterous whimsy as it squishes into unexpected and impossible spaces. More on RedBall by New York artist Kurt Perschke here.
10/ I spotted Svetlana Bell’s needle books on TikTok and I thought they were too gorgeous not to share. (Below)
11/ I somehow stumbled upon this old Paula Yates clip and she’s not taking any sh*t from the fellas. LOL!
12/ I’m a little bit obsessed with this toast-themed bag by Longchamp (clearly out of my league, but a toast-loving girl can dream!)
13/ Have you seen the gorgeous apartment of Peter Frith? It’s a delight full of personal treasures, colour, texture and light.
14/ I’m adding this film to my To Watch list. Maybe you will like it too? Also? I’ve been watching Trial and Retribution on Prime and if you like old and gritty British cop shows, you might like it too? There’s 1298 seasons. Well. Not quite that, but a lot.
15/ Sam Leishman heads up the Great Balls of Fibre men’s knitting group at Tasmania’s Risdon Prison.
16/ I love all the cute kiddo things in this shop. ALL OF THEM!
17/ I want to make this Cretan Stifado. Or this Strawberry Rhubarb Cake (might swap the strawbs for raspbs though). Also? This Spicy Hummus looks the biz. And this Hawaiian Pot Roast is interesting, right? Maybe this garlic bread? Greek Pasta Salad?
18/ How to make your own rosewater, pals. That sounds lovely, I think.
My sister visited for the weekend, so we had a big family lunch to celebrate June’s arrival. I made a giant roast chicken lunch with all the veggies and gravy … and it was very comforting and I am sure June would have had some, if she could. We went to Yum Cha at our favourite (Secret Kitchen) this morning, just my sister and I. That was so nice. We never get do do things with just the two of us, so we made the most of it and spent quite a bit of time talking to the baby at the next table (her name was Allegra … isn’t that a cute name?!)
What’s for dinner at yours, friends? I am hoping to make fried rice, but I think I might be too tired and might go straight to bed. (Usually when I feel like this I force myself to cook and feel the better for having something good to eat, so perhaps that will happen?!)
xoxo pip

NB: If any of the weekly FABS links ever fail, comment on this post and I’ll fix them up ASAP and add them to the comments too. I do my best editing after I hit that PUBLISH button, so please forgive any typos. I am a VERY VERY tired lady.
