#046 Feeling A Bit Sh*t?
Welcome to 2026, pals!
We made it! It’s 2026. So far so okay, right? Gulp ** looks over shoulder ** Let’s turn to one of my favourites - VW - for some helpful advice …
“Here are my resolutions for the next 3 months; the next lap of the year. First, to have none. Not to be tied. Second, to be free and kindly with myself, not goading it to parties; to sit rather privately reading in the studio.” - Virginia Woolf (1931) from Selected Diaries via
one/ My favourite read over the break was this one about the ‘walking’ Rapa Nui (aka Easter Island) statues. Gosh. Just so fascinating and amazing and clever.
two/ Of course I’m going to make a bunch of DIY stickers this week, after watching this.
three/ I can’t tell you how much I adore this clever and thoughtful gift idea. ADORE, I tell ya.
four/ Let’s cool down in the Scottish Highlands with Flora Shedden, shall we? (Below)
five/ This incredible knitted dress is incredible!
six/ Anne of Green Gables bed linen sounds like a good idea.
seven/ A titch late, but still love these Muppetified Christmas movie posters so much.
eight/ My friend Kate sent me this cluttery, cosy home tour and it’s a beaut! Also? A gorgeous brownstone (via Swiss Miss) that you might love.
nine/ Gen Z is determined to (sort of) single-handedly revive the print magazine industry. Hurrah!
ten/ How to turn a bit of a bottle of beer into delicious-looking cheesy rolls. Sweet Potato Farro Salad with Kale? Yes, please. A more-ish salad dressing to whip up and keep in the fridge. This hefty bread looks so interesting, right? Or this Tuscan Ribollita? Five minute Chai Latte. Butter Bean Soup, perhaps?
eleven/ Do you want to make an Emergency Present Drawer? I really do!
twelve/ (Not that they were ever out of fashion but) PATCHWORK QUILTS are back in fashion (above), friends and this is really just a good excuse to look at quilts, I think. (Image below via)
thirteen/ I’m obsessed with these holiday ornaments. (Very top image)
fourteen/ “Let people misunderstand you.”
fifteen/ Brilliant Gonpo’s abandoned his PhD to build a community library café in Tibet.
sixteen/ Oh my GOSH. Core memories with Swiftie dads!
seventeen/ “How was it for you? (Another Christmas)” by Jeanette Winterson.
eighteen/ I just saw The Hounding recommended by hair claw queen Jenny Lennick on Mother … have you read it? Looks goooood.
nineteen/ Speaking of Jenny Lennick/Lemons … this rainbow chard hair claw (above) is so funny and great.
twenty/ How to make a 2026 vision board. Get out the glue stick, friends! Alert the felt tipped pens!

My granddaughter June is 9 months old these days. The time is speeding by impossibly quickly and she’ll be not-a-baby before we know it. Christmas and New Year has been lovely and relaxing with the family. We ate a lot and laughed a lot. I saw an old friend over those strange between days, which was excellent too. Now we’re edging back in to a year and it will be hurtling along all too soon, I think. I’m starting off with good habits - thinking, reading, researching, writing … perhaps you are doing the same?
What’s for dinner at yours?
I’m going to have a jacket potato with a bunch of toppings, because I am addicted to that SpudBros potato account on Instagram … (perhaps you are too?!)
Silly joke of the week
What do you call a broken can opener?
A can’t opener, of course.
Hope your week brings small, good moments. Take care of yourself, sweetheart!

If you fancy, buy me a coffee/bag of dirt for the garden. —>
NB: If any of the weekly FABS links ever fail, comment on this post and I’ll fix them up ASAP and add them to the comments too.

I am FOR SURE making my own stickers!!!!
That rainbow chard hair claw is hilarious! I've been lookign for more playful accessory ideas and this kinda thing beats the usual minimalist stuff. It reminds me of when I found a zucchini pin at a craft fair last year and wore it way more than I thoght I would. Theres something refreshing about not taking aesthetics too seriously.
